Americans Top Ontario

Allen, Texas-The Allen Americans took Game 1 of the ECHL Western Conference Finals, 8-2 on Sunday afternoon, to take a 1-0 series lead over the Ontario Reign.

Six different players scored for Allen, which went 3 for 6 on the power play. Greger Hanson netted his team leading 8th & 9th of the playoffs, one of which came with the man-advantage. Chad Costello had the other power play goal for Allen, his 5th of playoffs. Costello added two assists, as well. Chris Crane scored for the 4th game in a row, his 5th of the postseason.

“We knew we had to get off to a good start,” said Costello, during a postgame interview on Hot 107.3 FM. “Our offense was clicking and Riley made the big saves. This is a great Ontario team we beat today and I’m sure they will be a different team tomorrow night.”

Jamie Schaafsma added two helpers for Allen, while Ian Schultz contributed a goal and an assist. Riley Gill made big save after big save, stopping 26 of 28 Ontario shots to earn the #1 star of the game.

Jussi Olkinuora started the game for Ontario, and gave up three goals on the first four shots he faced. Olkinuora was pulled in the first period and Joe Cannata stepped in for Ontario, not finishing much better, as he gave up five goals on 18 shots.
