Baylor Routs TCU Women

WACO, Texas – The TCU women’s basketball team was plagued by a slow start on Saturday evening, falling to seventh-ranked Baylor by a score of 80-46 at Ferrell Center to drop to 11-5 overall this season and 2-2 in Big 12 play.
Sophomore guard Zahna Medley led the Horned Frogs with 10 first-half points to go with a team-best five assists, while Natalie Ventress and Donielle Breaux chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.
Senior center Latricia Lovings added six points off a 3-of-3 effort from the field while grabbing a team-best six rebounds to go with six blocks.
The Frogs struggled to find a rhythm early, as Baylor (14-1, 4-0) ran out to a 14-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest before Ventress ended the skid with a jumper at the 16:27 mark.
Medley would lead TCU back into the contest, hitting a jumper before knocking down a pair of 3-pointers as Baylor held a 20-10 advantage.
Trailing by nine, Medley dished to junior forward Chelsea Prince in traffic, who converted the layup and the ensuing free throw for an old-fashioned 3-point play to cut the Baylor advantage to six.
Medley then drained a baseline jumper over a defender to cut the Baylor lead to 22-18 at the 9:20 mark, capping an 18-8 TCU run following its slow start.
Baylor’s Odyssey Sims answered with a 3-pointer to spark an 8-0 run as
the Bears pulled back out to a 30-18 advantage with just over six minutes remaining and Sims would connect on two more long-range buckets for a 45-27 lead at the break.
TCU would get as close as 16 points early in the second half when Medley fed Lovings on a 2-on-2 fastbreak, but the Bears would build a 21-5 run over the next eight minutes to put the contest away.
The Frogs managed to shoot just 29 percent (17-of-58) from the field while the Bears shot 48 percent (31-of-64) following a 60-percent (18-of-30) effort in the first half.
TCU turned the ball over 16 times compared to 15 Baylor miscues while dropping the rebounding battle by a 48-29 margin.
Baylor’s Sims, the nation’s leading scorer, posted 28 points while Sune Agbuke (15 points) and Nina Davis (11 points, nine rebounds) led the Bears’ attack in the paint.
The Frogs return to action when they take on Oklahoma State at 7 p.m., on Tuesday in Stillwater in a contest televised on FOX College Sports.
