FC Dallas Defeat Portland

Ryan Hollingshead and Walker Zimmerman scored goals during a two-minute stretch in Wednesday’s second half, helping FC Dallas rally past Portland 2-1 in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference championship at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Trailing 1-0, Hollingshead broke through Portland’s back line and flicked a right-footer from just inside the box past Portland keeper Jake Gleeson 10 minutes into the second half. Hollingshead’s goal was the first in three games for Dallas.

Two minutes later, Zimmerman got free on the back post on a corner kick and put Dallas ahead for good. Mauro Diaz was credited with the assist.

Portland’s Diego Valeri scored off on an assist from Lucas Melano three minutes into the game to give the Timbers the lead, but they melted down in the second and fell to 0-4-2 on the road this season.

Dallas was coming off a winless three-game road trip and was shut out in all three matches. Dallas outshot Portland 17-8, and keeper Chris Seitz came up with four saves to secure the win.

The Timbers (3-5-3) return home to host New York FC on Sunday. Dallas (6-4-2) hosts Seattle on Saturday.
