FC Dallas started off the season with a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bull on Sunday in Frisco.  It is the first time Dallas has defeated New York since 2009.  The Red Bull team ended FC Dallas’ season last year with a playoff win in Frisco.

Zach Loyd opened the scoring for FC Dallas with a goal in the 11th minute.  It is just his 2nd goal in 55 regular season games.

Ricardo Villar added an insurance goal in the 68th minute.  It is his first MLS goal of his career.  Villar almost didn’t even play due to a concussion suffered on Wednesday.  Villar was cleared to play on Saturday.   “I got bells rang on Wednesday. I went through the whole cognitive tests. I was actually only cleared on Saturday.  Thank God I was able to play and score the goal,” Villar said.

Blaz Perez assisted on both goals.

FC Dallas midfielder Fabian Castillo left the game with a leg injury.
