Dallas (9-5-4) moved within a point of the Colorado Rapids for first place in the Western Conference. The club also extended its home unbeaten streak to 14 games.

Salt Lake (8-5-3) rested the bulk of its regular starters with a key U.S. Open Cup match against Seattle Sounders ahead on Tuesday. Playing so many fresh faces took a toll offensively. Dallas outshot RSL 12-4 and held Real without a shot on goal.

Dallas got on the board in the 18th minute. Michael Barrios set the scoring play in motion when he tracked down a long ball off a quick restart and slipped behind the RSL back line. Jeff Attinella popped off his line to intercept Barrios and the forward flicked it over to Acosta on the other side of Attinella. Acosta got behind the Salt Lake goalkeeper and blasted the ball home.

Castillo added a second goal for Dallas in the 58th minute. Mauro Diaz sent a bicycle pass up to the speedy forward and he blasted the ball inside the right post just after crossing inside the box.

Dallas improved to 12-1-2 all time at home against Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer play.
