Feldman Puts Rangers Past White Sox

The big story of Sunday’s game wasn’t the Rangers hitting advantage. It wasn’t the return of Josh Hamilton into the lineup. Tonight’s game was all about the play of pitcher Scott Feldman.

The Texas Rangers won the game 2-0 against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday to avoid the sweep of the series. The Rangers lose the series 1-2 in what has been a downfall in the season after the All Star break.

“We needed it,” manager Ron Washington said. “We definitely needed to win a ballgame tonight and we did.”

The Rangers offense only needed two runs to win this shutout game against the White Sox, but it was how they got those runs that is the story. The offense has struggled to score with runners in position but today they managed to get runs by Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz when they were in scoring position. Nelson Cruz led the Rangers with two hits and a run to give the team their win in the series.

The true story was about Rangers starting pitcher Scott Feldman who held the White Sox to eight scoreless innings. Feldman gave up seven hits in the game but was also responsible for five strikeouts in a win that was much needed for the Rangers.

“It just proves that it’s a long season,” Feldman said. “You’re going to play 162 games and you can’t judge a guy too quickly out of the gate. You’re going to have ups and downs. You’ve got to stay mentally strong.”

The Rangers look to take their winning mentality to the next series as they take on the Los Angeles Angels in Arlington. First pitch is on Monday at 6:05 p.m.
