IRVING, TX, – Matt Kuchar, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel joined recent Nelson champions Jason Dufner, Jason Day, Keegan Bradley and Vijay Singh as the field for the 2013 HP Byron Nelson Championship was set today. For the complete field list, click here.
“We are thrilled with the quality, diversity and depth of our field,” said 2013 Tournament Chairman Mike McKinley. “We have a great mix of young rising stars, PGA TOUR veterans and a strong international contingent that I’m certain will have great appeal for our fans.”
Players in the field have combined to win 15 major championships and in total the field has 35 players that have won on the PGA TOUR in the last three years. Major winners include Singh, Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer, Schwartzel, Bradley, Oosthuizen, Y.E. Yang, Justin Leonard, Mike Weir, Angel Cabrera and Trevor Immelman.
There will be a very strong international presence at the Nelson this year with players such as Marcel Siem and Kaymer of Germany; Oosthuizen, Schwartzel, Immelman and Rory Sabbatini of South Africa; Singh (Fiji), Cabrera (Argentina), Harrington (Ireland) and 14-year-old amateur Guan Tianlang of China competing.
The field also features eight former winners of the U.S. Amateur including Kuchar, Leonard, Scott Verplank, Colt Knost, Ricky Barnes, Billy Mayfair, Jeff Quinney and Hank Kuehne.
Former Jesuit Ranger and Texas Longhorn Jordan Spieth returns to the site where he made his PGA TOUR debut, finishing T16 as an amateur in his first start in 2010. The mark still stands as the best amateur finish in tournament history.
The 2013 HP Byron Nelson Championship will be played May 13-19 at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas in Irving. Children 13 and under receive free admission, and free public parking and shuttle service is available at the intersection of SH 114 and Loop 12 in Irving (2000 E. John Carpenter Freeway, Irving). Fans may also travel by DART to the Northlake College Station where free shuttles will be available to the main entrance.
