FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders defeated the Midland RockHounds 9-5 on Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Rangers’ rehabber Mitch Moreland went 3-for-5 with a home run as Frisco split the series with the RockHounds.

Midland (1-1, 34-38) took advantage of first-inning struggles by Tyler Tufts. Conner Crumbliss led off the game with a double to left. D’Arby Myers hit a sac bunt to put Crumbliss on third, and Jake Goebbert doubled right to score the run. Later in the frame, Chad Oberacker doubled in the run to put Midland up 2-0.

Mitch Moreland led off the fourth with a single, and then a single by Alex Buchholz brought home Moreland to put Frisco (1-1, 40-32) on the board 2-1.

Midland added a run in the fifth. Myers singled to third, and then Goebbert knocked an RBI triple, extending the Midland lead 3-1.

Frisco came alive in the fifth, leading off with Hanser Alberto getting hit by the pitch. Teodoro Martinez singled to third to move Albert to second, and then the run was scored when Tomas Telis grounded into

a forceout at second. Then, Moreland slammed a two-run homer to left, giving Frisco a 4-3 lead.

The ‘Riders lead lasted a short time, as Midland scored two runs in the sixth. Oberacker and David Freitas walked to start the inning and Dusty Coleman singled to load the bases. Beau Taylor grounded into a double play to bring home the tying run, and the Freitas scored on a bunt by Crumbliss, putting the RockHounds up 5-4.

In the ‘Riders’ sixth, Alberto walked, and later in the frame, Teodoro Martinez crushed a homer to left as the ‘Riders retook the lead. Frisco extended their lead in a three-run seventh 9-5, which became the final score.

Phil Klein (3-0) gave up two runs on three hits and struck out two in his 2.1 innings of work to earn the victory. RockHounds starter Zach Neal (5-5) allowed six runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings to suffer the loss.

The ‘Riders begin the final series of the home stand against the Corpus Christi Hooks Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Neil Ramirez (8-2, 3.12 ERA) makes the start for the ‘Riders. The starter for the Hooks has yet to be announced.
