Frisco Drops Game To San Antonio

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders lost to the San Antonio Missions 9-6 Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Riders never led and the bullpen struggled as they dropped game two of the series.

San Antonio (22-20) took the lead to begin the game. With two outs in the frame, Everett Williams walked and was brought home on double by Kalian Sims. Johan Limonta hit an RBI double down the right line, and Jake Blackwood singled to put the Missions up 3-0.

In the bottom of the inning, Jared Hoying knocked an RBI double to bring Brett Nicholas home to put the ‘Riders (22-20) on the board 3-1. Hoying was taken out of the game after an apparent hamstring injury while running to second.

Ryan Strausborger walked in the second and stole second and then third on consecutive pitches. Teodoro Martinez hit an RBI infield single, closing the Missions lead to 3-2.

A three-run third for San Antonio that began with a leadoff out-of-the-park home run by Sams extended the Missions lead to 6-2.

The RoughRiders again closed in on the Missions lead in the bottom of the frame. Chih-Hsien Chiang hit an RBI double to bring in two. Strausborger reached base on a throwing error by Blackwood and Chiang ran in from third, putting the Frisco within one, 6-5.

Neither team scored again until the eighth when the Missions scored three runs off Wilmer Font, extending their lead 9-5.

Martinez homered in the eighth over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 9-6, which became the final score.

Chris Rearick (2-0) pitched two innings for the Missions, allowing one hit and striking out one to earn the victory. ‘Riders starter Tyler Tufts (1-1) went three innings, allowing 6 runs on seven hits with one home run, suffering to loss.

Frisco had a season-high seven steals in the game, including a career-high four steals by Strausborger.

Texas Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski will rehab with the RoughRiders Sunday and Monday.

The RoughRiders continue their series with the San Antonio 4 p.m. on Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Neil Ramirez (3-1, 2.93 ERA) makes the start for Frisco and will face Missions lefty Jose De Paula (3-3, 3.53 ERA).
