FRISCO, TEXAS – Despite taking an early lead, the Frisco RoughRiders fell to the San Antonio Missions 8-2 on Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The loss ended the ‘Riders three-game winning streak.

A series of errors by the Missions put Frisco (14-12) up 1-0 in the first. Hanser Alberto attempted a steal of second base, and two throwing errors, one by catcher Eddy Rodriguez and another by center fielder Rico Noel, brought him home on the play.

Alejandro Selen reached base on an error and then advanced from first to third on a single by Guilder Rodriguez. Selen then scored in the second run on an RBI single by Odubel Herrera, making the lead 2-0.

Spot-starter Tyler Tufts threw three scoreless innings for the RoughRiders. Reliever Phil Klein took over for Tufts and made his RoughRIder debut after getting promoted from High-A Myrtle Beach Wednesday. The Missions (14-12) found life against Klein in the fifth beginning with a leadoff walk by Jeudy Valdez. He stole second to reach scoring position. Justin Miller then slammed a single down the left foul line to bring Valdez home, closing the ‘Riders lead to 2-1.

In total, Klein pitched three innings, allowing one run one walk, and struck out four.

Cody Buckel came in for the seventh, but continued his season-long struggles. San Antonio took

advantage of two walks to start the inning and followed it up with an RBI double by Valdez to bring home Anthony Contreras. Later in the frame, Miller flied out to right on a sacrifice fly that brought in Rodriguez. A wild pitch by Buckel allowed Valdez to reach home, giving San Antonio the 4-2 lead.

The Missions continued to distance themselves in the final two innings. A one-run eighth against Ben Rowen made the lead to 5-2. Wilmer Font struggled in the ninth, giving up three runs to extend the lead to 8-2, which became the final score.

Missions’ reliever Ryan Kelly (1-1) earned the victory while Buckel (0-5) suffered the loss and the blown save.

The RoughRiders continue their series with San Antonio on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Starting pitcher for the RoughRiders has yet to be determined. Jose De Paula (1-2, 2.39 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Missions. Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 6:40.
