Frisco Loses To San Antonio

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders dropped an early lead to the San Antonio Missions, losing 4-2 Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The RoughRiders had only one hit on the night, and went without a baserunner after the first.

Craig Gentry led off the first with walk, and then Brett Nicholas knocked his 17th homer of the season to right field, putting the ‘Riders (9-14, 48-45) up 2-0.

The Missions (15-8, 53-39) struggled to get things started offensively, grounding into three double plays in the first four innings. In the seventh, however, Nick McBride gave up three singles to Johan Limonta, Jake Blackwood and Everett Williams to load the bases. Joe Van Meter came in relief and gave up a single by Lee Orr to right, bring home two runs to tie the game.

With one out in the eighth, Tommy Medica tripled down the right line. Limonta then knocked a line drive to mid center as the Missions took their first lead. Blackwood doubled to the back wall to bring home Limonta, extending San Antonio’s lead 4-2

Rehabbing from a broken hand, Rangers center fielder Gentry went one-for-three with one walk and scored one of the two RoughRiders runs.

Leonel Campos (1-0) struck out two in two innings pitched to pick up the victory. In his first game of the season with the ‘Riders, Joe Van Meter gave up two runs on four hits in three innings with three strikeouts to suffer the loss. Matt Stites struck out two in a scoreless ninth to be credited with his 13th save.

The ‘Riders continue their series against the San Antonio Missions Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Kevin Pucetas (8-7, 4.84 ERA) makes the start for the ‘Riders. The Missions will counter with Matt Wisler (10-1, 2.05 ERA).
