Frisco Needs 11 To Win

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders defeated the San Antonio Missions 3-2 in eleven innings Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. This was the tenth extra-inning contest of the season for both teams.

In his fifth rehab appearance in Frisco this season, Rangers’ pitcher Colby Lewis went five innings allowing two runs off six hits. Lewis walked one and struck out three, throwing 86 pitches, 59 for strikes.

The Missions (25-18, 63-49) took an early 1-0 lead in the first after Reymond Fuentes hammered a solo shot deep over the fence in center field.

Frisco (18-25, 57-56) remained silent until the fourth after Rougned Odor knocked a leadoff double to left-center. Brett Nicholas then hit an RBI double to the right wall to level the game.

San Antonio responded quickly in the fifth, beginning with a one-out double by Cory Spangenberg. Rico Noel then knocked a single to bring in the run to reclaim the lead, 2-1.

Leading off the sixth, Luis Sardinas singled to right, and later Nicholas walked later in the frame. Joe Benson then slammed an RBI double, bringing home Sardinasto tie the game at two, and Nicholas getting tagged out at the plate.

The game remained tied through ten innings. Reliever Clay Zavada gave up walks to

Nicholas and Benson, and Chih-Hsien Chiang knocked a sac bunt to set up the scoring play. Tomas Telis then hit a sacrifice fly to bring Nicholas home for the victory.

Phil Klein threw a scoreless tenth with two strikeouts to earn the victory, while Zavada walked two and gave up the winning run to suffer the loss.

The ‘Riders conclude their series with the Missions Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark at 6:05. Rehabbing Rangers’ lefty Matt Harrison (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make the start for the RoughRiders. The Missions will counter with righthander Keyvius Sampson (9-4, 2.43 ERA).
