Frisco Outlasts San Antonio

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders won game four of their series with the San Antonio Missions 5-4 on Friday night in an 11-inning walk off. The ‘Riders won their last two and concluded the home stand going 5-3.

The Missions (14-14) took the lead in the first without a base hit. Rico Noel reached after getting hit by the pitch and proceeded to successfully steal second and third. A wild pitch by Neil Ramirez allowed Noel to score the run, putting San Antonio up 1-0.

Frisco (15-12) answered in the second after Brett Nicholas reached base on a fielding error. Chih-Hsien Chiang doubled to left field to even the score. Chiang advanced to third on a passed ball by Smith, and scored on a fielders choice to give the ‘Riders a 2-1 lead.

To lead off the fourth, Noel continued to be a headache for the RoughRiders, bunting in a single for the second consecutive night. He successfully stole second and reached third on a throwing error by Ramirez. Everett Williams singled to bring Noel home, tying the game at two.

The Missions bats became lively in the fifth. With runners on the corners, Fuentes stole second on a throwing error by Tomas Telis. An RBI double by Noel brought in two to give San Antonio the 4-2 lead.

Ramirez pitched through five innings, with 6 strikeouts and giving up 4 runs. Jose Mavare made

his Double-A debut in the sixth, striking out five in 2.1 scoreless innings.

The RoughRiders shortened the Missions lead in the seventh following a walk for Chiang, who advanced to second on a passed ball. Martinez singled to center to bring Chiang home, making the score 4-3.

The Missions walked Ryan Strausborger to lead off the ninth. Later in the frame, Strausborger stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Rodriguez. A base hit by Odubel Herrera brought home Strausborger, tying the game at four. Neither team scored in the tenth

In the eleventh, Martinez reached on a leadoff walk. A sacrifice bunt and a blunder by Valdez put Herrera on base and moved Martinez to second. Guilder Rodriguez hit a sacrifice bunt, advancing Martinez and Herrera to set up the scoring play. Alberto hit a ball to right feild to score Martinez on a sacrifice fly for the 5-4 walk off win.

Miscues by the San Antonio defense helped the Frisco rally and win. Four of the five runs scored by the RoughRiders were unearned, including the game-tying and game-winning runs.

Coming in to pitch the eleventh, Ben Rowen (3-0) earned the victory while Josh Geer (1-2) suffered the loss.

The RoughRiders take to the road to begin a new series with the Midland RockHounds on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Citi Bank Ballpark. Kevin Pucetas (3-2, 3.45 ERA) will start for Frisco and will face Carlos Hernandez (1-3, 3.58 ERA) for Midland. Frisco returns to Dr Pepper Ballpark for an eight-game home stand Monday, May 13 at 7 p.m. against the RockHounds.
