NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Frisco RoughRiders were shut down by the Arkansas Travelers in a 2-0 shutout loss on Wednesday at Dickey-Stevens Park.

Coming off the two-day All-Star break, the bats were kept quiet for the most part on Wednesday night. Arkansas (4-3, 37-39) tagged ‘Riders starter Tyler Tufts for a run in the first when CJ Cron bounced a tough-hop ground ball single off of third baseman Alex Buchholz into left field. The single scored Josue Montanez and gave the Travelers a 1-0 lead.

After that lone tally, neither team scored until the seventh, and Frisco (3-4, 42-35) struggled to string hits together. They stranded seven baserunners and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

The best ‘Riders chance came in the second inning. Off of Arkansas starting pitcher Matt Oye, Tomas Telis led off the second with a single. With two outs, Hanser Alberto singled as well, but both runners were stranded when Teodoro Martinez flew out to end the inning.

The ‘Riders did not get a runner into scoring position after the third. Oye left in-line for the

victory with six innings of shutout ball. He scattered six hits and a walk and fanned three Frisco batters.

The Travelers added another run in the seventh inning on a solo homer from Jimmy Swift off of reliever Alex Claudio, who was making his second career Double-A appearance. Claudio pitched well otherwise. The home run was the only hit he allowed in two innings of work. He walked one and struck out a batter as well.

The insurance run was unneeded, as the RoughRiders mustered nothing off of Kevin Johnson in the game’s final two innings. In fact, Travelers’ pitching put the final eleven RoughRiders away in order.

Tufts (1-2) pitched well, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks in the defeat. Matt Oye (5-5) earned his fifth win, evening his season record. Johnson notched his ninth save.

The RoughRiders continue their set in North Little Rock on Thursday against the Travelers at 7:10 pm. Nick McBride (1-3, 6.14 ERA) takes the ball for Frisco against left-handed pitcher Michael Roth (2-2, 3.61 ERA).
