FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders shut out the Corpus Christi Hooks 2-0 Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark off a two run home run in the first. This was the seventh shutout win for the ‘Riders, the second against the Hooks.

With two out in the first, Brett Nicholas knocked a triple to the right corner. On the next pitch, Alex Buchholz slammed a two-run homer, giving the ‘Riders (1-1, 40-32) an early 2-0 lead.

The first-inning home run was enough, as the game flew by in a two-hour defensive battle. Corpus Christi (1-2, 43, 30) had no answer to the RoughRiders’ pitching staff.

Rangers’ rehabbing pitcher Joakim Soria pitched the eighth inning, striking out one and threw ten pitches with seven for strikes.

Neil Ramirez (9-2) pitched six solid innings with two hits and six strikeouts to earn the victory. Jake Buchanan (7-2) allowed two runs on four hits in five innings to suffer the loss. Wilmer Font pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his ninth save.
