Frisco Splits Series With Corpus Christi

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders dropped their series final to the Corpus Christi Hooks 6-3 on Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The ‘Riders split the four-game series and went 5-7 on their 12-game home stand.

Enrique Hernandez doubled left to lead off the first and advanced to third on a groundout by Rene Garcia. Later in the frame, Jonathan Meyer doubled to left wall to bring home the run as the Hooks (3-3, 45-31) took an early 1-0 lead.

In the third, Garcia singled to right center and then Texas League home run leader George Springer slammed a two-run homer left out of the park, extending the Hooks lead 3-0.

Zach Zaneski led off the third with a solo home run to left, as Frisco (3-3, 42-34) closed the lead 3-1.

With one out in the fourth, Zach Johnson singled right, and then stole second on a wild pitch by Carlos Pimentel and advanced to third on an error by Odubel Herrera. Garcia singled left to score the run. The Hooks extended their lead 6-1 in the fifth off two ‘Riders fielding errors.

Frisco took advantage of Hooks’ blunders as Herrera led off with a walk. Zaneski reached

first on a fielding error by Torrez that advanced Herrera to third. Alejandro Selen then singled to center. With two outs in the eighth, the ‘Riders closed the Hooks’ lead 6-3 on a solo home run to left field by Chih-Hsien Chiang.

Mike Foltynewicz (3-0) pitched three innings,allowed one run on five hits and struck out one to earn the win. Carlos Pimentel gave up five runs on seven hits and struck out four in 4.1 innings to suffer the loss. Patrick Urkfitz allowed one hit in 1.1 innings to pick up his fifth save.

After a scheduled day off and Tuesday’s All-Star game, The ‘Riders take to the road in for six games beginning with a three-game series with the Arkansas Travelers starting Wednesday at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock at 6 p.m. Right-hander Tyler Tufts (1-1, 3.60 ERA) makes the start for the ‘Riders.
