Fury Sets PGA TOUR Record

Jim Furyk has won the U.S. Open and been a member of Ryder Cup teams. The 46 year-old had his name on the exclusive list as one of the six players in PGA Tour history to shoot a 59. In fact, he was the last golfer to shoot the magical number, coming in 2013 at the BMW Championship.

In the final round of the Travelers Championship, Furyk became the first golfer in PGA Tour history to shoot 58. He hit all 18 greens in regulation en route to setting the single-round record on the par-70 TPC River Highlands course in Connecticut.

“There’s a lot of rounds by a lot of great players ahead of me that have never reached 58, so to hold that record alone right now, on the PGA Tour at least … is phenomenal,” Furyk said. “To have a little, small place in history is something you dream of.”

In a bit of irony, Furyk made the cut on the number on Friday, draining a 7-foot par putt in order to even be around for the weekend.

“I’m hitting it well, I’m putting it well. It’s trying to find a way to stay out of your own way really,” Furyk said. “And don’t let any thoughts leak in.”

His epic Sunday morning round moved him up 65 spots to finish in a tie for fifth, three shots behind champion Russell Knox.

In recognition of his historic score, Traveler’s announced they were donating $58,000 to the charity of Jim Furyk’s choice.

Notables in the field included Brooks Koepka (T9, -10), Patrick Reed (T11, -9), Matt Kuchar (T17, -8), Bubba Watson (T25, -7), Ernie Els (T47, -4) and Zach Johnson (T47, -4).

Next up is the Olympic Men’s Golf Competition in Rio and the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silivis, IL.
