HP Byron Nelson Commitments Include Defending Champ

Irving, TX, Mar. 3, 2011 – HP Byron Nelson Championship officials announced a number of early commitments today, including Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, D.A. Points, Rory Sabbatini, Jhonattan Vegas and Johnson Wagner. Points, Vegas and Wagner are three of the PGA TOUR’s eight winners this year.

Jason Day will return to defend his title, after winning the 2010 Championship at the age of 22. Day is the youngest Nelson Champion since Tiger Woods’ victory in 1997 at 21-years old and has two top 10 finishes on the PGA TOUR in 2011.

Dustin Johnson, who is No. 14 in the Official World Golf Rankings, has claimed four victories since turning pro in 2007. His most recent victory was at the 2010 BMW Championship. Johnson has two top 10 finishes in 2011, including T3rd at the Farmers Insurance Open.

D.A. Points recently grabbed his first PGA TOUR victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Ranked No. 3 on the PGA TOUR Money List, Points is No. 4 in the race for the FedExCup.

Rory Sabbatini, 2009 Nelson Champion and DFW-area resident, will be looking to claim his sixth PGA TOUR win. Sabbatini’s best 2011 finish was T5th at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun.

Jhonattan Vegas, a graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, is currently ranked No. 2 in the race for the FedExCup and No. 6 on the PGA TOUR Money List. Vegas recently claimed his first PGA TOUR win at the 2011 Bob Hope Classic and followed that up the next week with a T3rd at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Johnson Wagner claimed his second PGA TOUR victory last week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun. Currently No. 21 on the PGA TOUR Money List, Wagner ranks fifth in scoring average on the TOUR.

The 2011 HP Byron Nelson Championship will be played Memorial Day weekend, May 23-29, at the TPC Four Seasons Resort and Club Las Colinas in Irving.
