Mavs win against Minnesota

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 104-96 before another sellout crowd at the American Airlines Center on Thursday night.

With the victory, Dallas recorded its 50th win and improved to 50-21. The Mavericks became the third franchise in NBA history (since the NBA went to an 82-game schedule in 1967) to record 11 straight 50-win seasons. Only the Spurs (12 seasons, 1999-present) and the Lakers (12 seasons, 1979-1991) have gone more consecutive seasons with 50-plus wins.

Dirk Nowitzki recorded a team-high 30 points and a game-high-tying 11 rebounds vs. Minnesota on Thursday. It marked his fourth double-double in the last six games (14th of the season). He extended his streak of consecutive free throws made to 63 by going 5-of-5 from the line on Thursday. The Mavericks improved to 12-2 when he records a double-double this season and 8-3 when he scores 30-plus points in a game.

Shawn Marion returned for Dallas after missing the game vs. Golden State (3/20/11) with a sprained right wrist, and made his 17th start at small forward. Marion, who had 13 first-half points in his last game against San Antonio on 3/18/11, tallied 14 points before intermission on Thursday. He’s averaging 12.8 points in the first half over his last five games, while shooting 64.4 percent (29-of-45) from the field before intermission in that span. Marion finished with 17 points (8-14 FGs, 1-2 FTs), six boards and two blocks vs. the Timberwolves.

Jason Kidd went scoreless vs. Minnesota on Thursday, but recorded six rebounds, 13 assists, three steals and one block in 35 minutes. It marked the fourth time he’s gone scoreless in a game this season, but the third time he’s handed out double-digit assists in such games.
