Midland Sweeps Frisco

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Midland RockHounds overpowered the Frisco RoughRiders 6-0 Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The ‘Riders suffered their second straight shutout and second sweep of the season.

Conner Crumbliss walked in the first with two outs. Jake Goebbert then slammed a triple to the right corner to put Midland (15-17, 48-54) up early.

In the fourth, Goebbert led off with a walk, and then Carlos Pimentel hit Jefry Marte with the pitch. Max Muncy knocked a single RBI to right, and David Frietas singled in another run. Later in the frame, D’Arby Myers singled for a third run, and then Crumbliss walked with the bases loaded, giving the ‘Hounds a 5-0 lead.

A double by Myers in the eighth extended the Midland lead 6-0, which became the final score.

The RoughRiders (13-20, 52-51) struggled against Midland throughout the series. Frisco’s only run was a leadoff home run by Teodoro Martinez in the first inning of Monday’s game, followed by 26 straight scoreless innings.

Carlos Hernandez (6-7) pitched eight innings with six strikeouts and just six hits to earn

the victory. Carlos Pimentel (8-7) allowed five runs on five hits and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings to suffer the defeat.

The ‘Riders take to the road, traveling to San Antonio and then Midland. Frisco starts the roadtrip against the Missions Thursday at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Nick McBride (1-6, 6.26 ERA) will make the start for the RoughRiders against Missions right hander Keyvious Sampson (7-4, 2.67 ERA).
