Monster weekend at Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH, Texas (July 15, 2010) – Individuals seeking super-charged family fun this weekend will have to look no further than Texas Motor Speedway as “The Great American Speedway!” will host three diverse events suited for fans of all ages.

SCION Drag-n-Brag, in addition to the Show-n-Shine car display competition, opens its second season Friday evening. Created last year by Texas Motor Speedway officials to assist in curtailing illegal street racing in the Metroplex by providing a safer alternative at the motorsports facility, the SCION Drag-n-Brag program provides a more conducive and safer environment for potential street racers as well as car enthusiasts by converting Texas Motor Speedway’s pit lane into a 1/8-mile drag strip. Practice begins at 6:15 p.m. CT while division competition starts at 9 p.m. Show-n-Shine runs from 6:15-8:30 p.m. SCION Drag-n-Brag admission for fans is $7 while competitor entry fees are $20 for SCION Drag-n-Brag and $15 for Show-n-Shine.

The Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway will host “Monster Trucks: Unleashed” Friday and Saturday, combining monster trucks with ATV and MX Freestyle performances.  The car-crushing, wheelie-popping action begins Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. CT, with a free pit party for ticketholders from 6-7 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for children (ages 4-12) in advance, and $18 for adults and $12 for children (ages 4-12) at the gate. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling the TMS ticket office at (817) 215-8500.

The future of automobiles also will be on display this weekend as Texas Motor Speedway once again serves as the starting point for the Hunt-Winston School Solar Car Challenge. Challenge teams will prepare their cars Saturday for the journey to Boulder, Colo., by going through safety checks and various tests in Texas Motor Speedway’s Crystal Parking Lot, located across from The Speedway Club. Teams will depart through Texas Motor Speedway’s South entrance at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The Hunt-Winston School Solar Car Challenge is the largest solar car event in the western hemisphere, with 22 high school teams competing. The Winston Solar Car Team was launched in 1993 as an educational program to teach high school students how to build and safely race road-worthy solar cars.

There is no admission fee to check out the solar cars or watch the start of their race to Boulder, Colo.
