The Texas Rangers lost at home to the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-2, Sunday night at the Ballpark in Arlington. With the Rays taking 2 of 3 games, it is the first series the Rangers have lost this season. The loss drops the Rangers to 16-6.
Pitcher Derek Holland earned the loss, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings. Holland struck out 8 as his record dropped to 2-2.
Josh Hamilton put the Rangers on top early with an RBI single in the 1st inning, scoring Elvis Andrus. It was Hamilton’s only at-bat as he left the game early with back stiffness. It was the only hit for the top of the Rangers order, as the other 6 hits were scattered by batters 5-9. Lead-off batter Ian Kinsler felt the pain of going 0-5 at the plate, “It’s always frustrating when you lose. We didn’t bring our bats tonight.”
Texas manager Ron Washington was ejected from the game after arguing a call in the 7th inning.
The Rangers open a road series in Toronto tonight.
