Rangers lose series with Mariners

The Texas Rangers ended their series in Seattle with a 3-1 loss to the Mariners.  Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis went the distance, giving up just 3 runs while striking out 11, but the Texas batters could not provide any run support.  Lewis falls to 2-4 on the season.

The middle of the lineup let the Rangers down in the game, finding no hits and only 1 baserunner.  A frustrated David Murphy said, “Hitting comes and goes, but it’s frustrating to waste a pitching performance like that.  Colby did a great job. We should have gotten him more runs.”

The Rangers return home after a road trip which saw them go just 2-5.  Texas has now lost 14 of the last 22.  Things won’t get much easier at home as they face the Yankees, A’s, and Angels.  Texas is one game behind the Angels for the AL West lead.  Rangers’ manager Ron Washington has faith his team will come out of the slump, “The road trip could have been better if we get some key hits in situations.  It just didn’t happen.”

The Rangers host the Yankees beginning tonight at the Ballpark in Arlington.
