The Texas Rangers didn’t get a chance to sweep the Kansas City Royals as they lost 7-6 in extra innings on Sunday. The Rangers loss snaps the team’s four game winning streak but they win the series 2-1 as they continue to fight to keep their division lead.

The Rangers played a strong game scoring five runs in the fourth inning to lead the game 5-2 before the Royals rallied back scoring runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to help send the game to extra innings. A throwing error by Rangers first baseman Mike Olt gave the Royals their winning run in the tenth inning to avoid the chance of being swept.

Derek Holland was the starter for the Rangers in Sunday’s game and played six innings giving up eight hits and six runs before being retired. Holland also had seven strikeouts in the loss.

“In my eyes it was pretty bad how I threw,” Holland said. “I didn’t give my team a chance to win. I was very disappointed with the way I pitched today.”

Roy Oswalt played a part in keeping off the Royals offense pitching two innings giving up no runs or hits and he had four strikeouts.

The Rangers offense had a tremendous fourth inning as there were no individual standouts but more of a team effort. A single by Adrian Beltre led the Rangers fourth inning comeback as Josh Hamilton was able to score. The Rangers ended the inning after an Elvis Andrus triple ran in two more to give the Rangers a comfortable 5-2 lead. Andrus finished the game with two hits and two RBI’s in the loss.

The Rangers look to go for another series win as they head to Boston to take on the Red Sox. First pitch is on Monday at 6:10 p.m.
