Rangers Rally For Big Win Over Angels

The Texas Rangers rallied from 3 runs down to beat the LA Angels 9-5 Sunday night in Arlington.

The Rangers trailed 4-1 in the 3rd inning, when Elvis Andrus hit a triple to score Ian Kinsler, followed by a two-run homer from Josh Hamilton to tie the game.  The Angels took the lead again in the 5th on a solo home run by Howie Kendrick.

Texas took the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th, when the first 6 batters all reached base and scored 4.  The Rangers added a final run in the 8th on another RBI hit by Andrus, bringing in Kinsler.

Reliever Darren Oliver is credited with the win, bringing his record to 5-5.  Starter Colby Lewis went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits.

Texas batters got 12 hits, led by Andrus and Hamilton with 3 each.

The Rangers have the day off after playing 17 straight.  They end the series with the Angels holding a 3-game lead over them for the AL West lead with 27 to go.  Texas manager Ron Washington knows how important it was to win this series, “We showed up today with one thing in mind and that was to play the very best baseball we could.  If that means coming from behind, we were willing to do that. It was a tough three games and both teams fought hard. We wanted to win and they wanted to win. I’m proud of my guys.”

The Rangers open a series with the Rays on Tuesday at the Ballpark in Arlington.
