Rangers RHP Darren O’Day reinstated from disabled list

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight’s game that the club has reinstated right-handed pitcher Darren O’Day from the 60-day disabled list. O’Day (#56) will be available in the bullpen for tonight’s game versus Florida. To make room for O’Day on the 25-man roster, the club has optioned left-handed pitcher Michael Kirkman to Triple-A Round Rock.

O’Day was placed on the 60-day disabled list on April 27 for surgery to repair a partial tear of the labrum in his left hip, performed by Dr. Tom Byrd in Nashville, Tenn. on April 28. O’Day has gone 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA (2 ER/7.1 IP) in 8 relief appearances for Texas this season, including 1.0 scoreless inning in his last appearance on April 26 vs. Toronto. It was the first disabled list stint of his career.

O’Day made 6 appearances on injury rehabilitation assignments with Frisco (AA) and Round Rock (AAA), combining to go 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA (3 ER/7.1 IP). He issued one walk and struck out 13 of 29 batters faced, also permitting 2 home runs. His last appearance was Thursday for Round Rock vs. Nashville (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R-ER, 0 BB, 5 SO, 1 HR, 39 pitches/27 strikes).

Kirkman has gone 1-1 with a 7.33 ERA (19 ER/23.1 IP) in 11 relief appearances over two stints with Texas this season. He allowed 3 runs in 1.1 innings last night to finish the club’s win over Florida.

With these moves, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster.
