The Rangers may have a division lead, but the Angels have looked to be the more dominant team in the division.

The Texas Rangers lose 6-2 against the Los Angeles Angels in a game that the Rangers struggled to get hits off of Angels pitcher Jared Weaver. The Rangers are down 0-2 in the four game series.

Pitcher Derek Holland got the start against the Angels in Tuesday’s game. He pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up three home runs, two of them from Albert Pujols and one from Mike Trout whose 10th homer of the month set the American League rookie record for most home runs in July. Holland finished the night with five strikeouts against the Angels.

“I felt very strong out there, but a couple pitches got away,” Holland said. “For the most part, I did what I needed to do. I just made a couple of bad pitches. I thought I did a good job executing. A couple pitches got away and they have a good ballclub over there. If you make mistake, they’re going to hit it.”

The Rangers were held scoreless by Angels pitcher Jared Weaver until the seventh innings when David Murphy hit a double that ran in Josh Hamilton and Michael Young. Murphy finished with a hit and two RBI’s to help the Rangers avoid being shut out.

“He’s a good pitcher. He pitched well and located well,” Young said of Weaver. “We’ve got a talented group and big-time competitors. We just have to keep playing hard. Our morale is fine. We have been through a lot together: big wins, tough losses. Our morale doesn’t get affected. We’re fine.”

The Rangers will have a chance to show the Angels their tough mentality when play game three of the series on Wednesday. First pitch is in Arlington at 7:05 p.m.
