As the Texas Rangers begin their quest for a World Series Championship, Dallas-Fort Worth area youth baseball is wrapping up for the fall season. Last weekend, two teams (Crush and Mean Green) from the Red Oak Baseball & Softball Association (ROBSA) participated in the Fall 2011, 5U/6U Southwest Classic & Best Southwest Baseball tournament which was held at the Valley Ridge Park in Cedar Hill, Texas. Other teams participating in the tournament were from Cedar Hill: Yankees, Crusaders, Astros, Rangers, Braves, and Senators; from Lancaster: Saints; and from Duncanville: Rangers, Cubs, and Astros. These teams are part of the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA).

The teams played a series of games on both Saturday, October 15, 2011, and Sunday, October 16, 2011. The Championship game was played Sunday between the undefeated Red Oak Crush and the Cedar Hill Yankees. To reach the championship the Red Oak Crush played the Cedar Hill Senators (Score 16-1) and Lancaster Saints (Score 17-9). The Cedar Hill Yankees faced both the Duncanville Cubs (Score 21-6) and the Cedar Hill Crusaders (Score 25-24).

The Championship game ended with the Red Oak Crush, coached by Matt Mayfield, winning with an exciting 20-19 finish in the bottom of the third inning. The Red Oak Crush is also the team which came in 1st place in the Southwest Classic & Best Southwest Baseball Tournament for the Spring 2011, 6 and Under, East Division earlier this year (story here).
