Roadwork suspended to ease NASCAR traffic

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 14, 2010) – NorthGate Constructors, which is working in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation on the design and construction of the $1 billion DFW Connector project, announced that it will suspend all lane closures from Friday through Sunday to allow Texas Motor Speedway to accommodate its race fans for the Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR double-header weekend.

The suspension of the lane closures will be extremely beneficial in maintaining the traffic flow during the heaviest volume days of race week, beginning with Friday’s action that includes qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series as well as the Rattlesnake 150 ARCA race. The weekend will feature the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Nationwide Series race Saturday and culminate with the Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sunday, which is annually the largest-attended, single-day sporting event in the state of Texas.
“We greatly appreciate the cooperation of NorthGate Constructors to suspend the closures to benefit our race fans visiting this week,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “This move will be xtremely valuable in terms of their travel plans.”
The DFW Connector is an eight-mile project that will rebuild portions of four highways, two interchanges and five bridges. The DFW Connector includes state highways 114 and 121 and adjacent roadways located north of DFW Airport, all of which are vital roadways for race fans traveling to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.
“As a gesture of our continuing support and partnership with the community, Northgate Constructors will suspend all lane closures on the DFW Connector project from April 16 through 18 to help the flow of race traffic,” Deputy project director Jay Knez said.
