RoughRiders Lose 2nd Straight

FRISCO, TEXAS – Midland used a six-run fourth inning to build a big lead and beat the RoughRiders 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Despite, the second straight defeat, Frisco outfielder Teodoro Martinez had a career day, going 4 for 4 with two home runs.

The RockHounds (19-20) nabbed the game’s first lead in the second inning against Kevin Pucetas with three straight hits to start the frame. After a single and a double by Jake Goebbert and Josh Whitaker, respectively, Dusty Coleman singled to bring home the first run. Miles Head followed by grounding into a double play to score Whitaker from third and make it 2-0 Midland.

The visitors extended their lead in the fourth. Whitaker and Coleman led off with singles and later scored on a two-run base hit by Beau Taylor. Pucetas (4-4) then loaded the bases with one out before surrendering back-to-back two-run hits to D’Arby Myers and Anthony Aliotti, extending the RockHounds’ lead to 8-0. Frisco’s starter did not finish the frame in his shortest outing of the season.

The RoughRiders (20-19) got all of their offensive production from Martinez, who

clubbed a three-run home run in the seventh inning off of reliever Carlos Fisher. The Venezuelan left fielder capped the scoring with a solo shot in the ninth against Paul Smyth for his career-high-tying fourth hit of the day. The two home runs and four runs batted in for Martinez were both career-bests.

Midland starter Sean Murphy (1-1) kept the ‘Riders off-balance for six innings, yielding just two hits and no runs, to earn his first Texas League victory. Pucetas gave up all eight runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings for the defeat.

The RoughRiders conclude their series with the RockHounds on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Richard Bleier (-,-) will start for Frisco while Midland counters with Josh Bowman.
