RoughRiders Lose In Corpus Christi

COPRUS CHRISTI, TEXAS  – The Frisco RoughRiders were handed their second straight loss in Corpus Christi, this time by a 9-3 score at Whataburger Field on Saturday evening. Martin Perez struggled in his second rehab start for and took the loss.

The RoughRiders offense collected four hits in the first two innings but could not score off the Corpus Christi starter David Martinez. They left the bases loaded in the second against him.

Meanwhile, Martin Perez started strong in his second rehab outing for the ‘Riders, retiring the first five he faced, but Erik Castro knocked a two-out single to end that streak in the second. Then Enrique Hernandez hit a two-run home run to break the scoreless tie.

The two base hits in the second were two of nine base knocks allowed in total by the lefthander, who surrendered six runs in the third inning. Of the nine hits, four went for extra bases. Perez walked a pair as well, although one was intentionally, and he struck out just one. He left after back-to-back singles in the fourth inning and with his team behind 8-0.

Frisco managed to finally score on Martinez in the fifth. Odubel Herrera brought

home Tomas Telis, who had a three hit night, with his second single of the night, and Brett Nicholas knocked home the second run on a sacrifice fly, making it 8-2.

Frisco got no closer in the contest. By the time the RoughRiders scored for the third time, George Springer had already given Corpus their ninth run on his twelfth home run of the year, coming off of Jimmy Reyes in the eighth inning. Frisco’s third run came on an RBI single from Telis, but the RoughRiders left two aboard in the inning and lost 9-3.

Michael Foltynewicz tossed four innings in relief for the Hooks to collect his first save of the year. Perez (0-1) took the loss, and Martinez (5-0) stayed perfect with his fifth win.

The RoughRiders wrap up their series in Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm. Carlos Pimtentel (3-1, 3.00) takes the mound for Frisco. The Hooks will counter with Ruben Alaniz (0-3, 5.40 ERA). Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 12:40.
