RoughRiders Lose To Corpus Christi

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders struggled offensively in a 5-1 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The ‘Riders’ winning streak ended at three and the Hooks earned their second victory in the last eight games.

Corpus Christi (2-3, 44-31) took an early lead after Nick McBride struggled with control. Enrique Hernandez walked on the first four pitches and took second on a wild pitch. Raoul Torrez flied to right to put Hernandez on third, and then Erik Castro hit an RBI single to left, giving the Hooks a 1-0 lead.

Leading off the fourth, Michael Burgess slammed a solo homer to the pool zone in right field. Phil Klein took over for McBride in the fifth and gave up a leadoff single to left by George Springer. Castro then singled to left, and then Jonathan Meyer shot a three-run homer to left field as Corpus Christi led 5-0.

Frisco (3-2, 42-33) avoided the shutout in the sixth, beginning with a leadoff single by Alejandro Selen. Tomas Telis singled right to put Selen on third, and then Brett Nicholas knocked an RBI sac fly to right, cutting the Hooks lead 5-1.

Rueben Alaniz (3-7) went two innings, allowing one run on three hits with one

strikeout to earn the win. McBride allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks to suffer the defeat. Patrick Urkfitz pitched a third of the ninth to earn his fourth save.

The ‘Riders conclude their series against the Corpus Christi Hooks and their season-long 12-game home stand Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Carlos Pimentel (7-4, 4.07 ERA) makes the start for the ‘Riders. The Hooks will counter with David Martinez (10-1, 2.05 ERA).
