RoughRiders Trounce Midland

FRISCO, TEXAS – Frisco took care of the Midland RockHounds on Wednesday sending 10,989 fans home happy for the second straight game. Jake Thompson pitched into the seventh, Joey Gallo blasted his third home run in two days and Josh Hamilton knocked a two run bomb to help the Riders cruise to an 8-1 victory at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Nick Williams and Trever Adams led off with back to back singles in the first and Hamilton recorded an RBI with a fielder’s choice.The bases were loaded thanks to a double by Gallo and a walk toNomar Mazara. Drew Robinson drew the Riders second walk of the inning allowing Hamilton to score, giving the Riders a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Gallo drove his seventh home run of the season over the centerfield wall, his third in two days giving the Riders a 3-0 lead. The Riders offense continued in the fourth when Robinson and Patrick Cantwell both reached base before Guilder Rodriguez’s single plated Robinson taking a 4-0 lead.

The RockHounds finally got on the board in the fifth inning when Chad Pinder was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, stealing second and eventually scoring on a wild pitch making it 4-1 Riders. In the

seventh, the Hounds threatened again with back-to-back hits by Matt Olson and Renato Nunez. Will Lamb recorded the final out of the inning, stranding the bases loaded. Thompson (3-3) allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight and walking none. Thompson is the first Riders starter to not walk a hitter since Alec Asher did so on May 6.

Hamilton revved up the 10,989 faithful with a two run shot to give the Riders a commanding 6-1 lead.. Later in the eighth, Rodriguez recorded his fourth hit of the game sending a double off the right field wall scoring two runs making it a 8-1 Riders lead.. Jesus Pirela closed out the eighth before working around a single in the ninth to to finish out the 8-1 victory for Frisco. The Riders have outscored the RockHounds 23-8 over their two consecutive victories.

The Riders and Hounds conclude their series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Chad Bell (1-3) will take the mound for the Riders as the RockHounds counter with LHP Chris Lamb. It’s another Thirsty Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark where fans can enjoy $1 domestic beers and $2 select import beers from 6-8 p.m. and all Dr Pepper Products for just $1 throughout the game.
