Saints Brees Past Cowboys

Drew Brees passed for 446 yards Sunday to lead the New Orleans Saints over the Dallas Cowboys 34-31 in overtime Sunday at Cowboys Stadium.

Brees connected on 37 of 53 passes for 3 touchdowns with no interceptions.  Marques Colson and Darren Sproles each gained over 100 yards receiving.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo completed 26 of 43 passes for 416 yards and 4 touchdowns with no picks.  Romo’s favorite target was Dez Bryant, who caught 9 passes for a career-high 224 yards and 2 touchdowns, each from 58 yards out.

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten caught 6 passes for 60 yards.  Witten set a new NFL single-season record with 103 catches on the year.

The Cowboys trailed by two touchdowns with 3 1/2 minutes to go, but rallied to tie the game with 15 seconds remaining on a 19-yard touchdown pass to Miles Austin to send the game to overtime.

Dallas took the ball first in overtime, but was forced to punt.  The Saints moved to the Dallas 33-yard line when Brees connected on a pass to Colston, who fumbled the ball to the 2-yard line.  New Orleans recovered the ball and kicked the game-winning field goal.

The Cowboys struggled on defense all day, giving up 562 total yards.  Dallas failed to stop New Orleans on 3rd downs, allowing the Saints to convert 58%.  The Saints gained 199 yards on 3rd down and held a 2-to-1 advantage in time of possession.

Dallas still has a chance to win the NFC East division by defeating the Redskins in Washington next Sunday.
