TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – The No. 20 SMU men’s soccer team fell, 1-0, to No. 4 USF in the Hurricane Classic at Hurricane Stadium on Friday afternoon. With the loss, SMU moves to 0-1-1 on the season.

“We are very proud of the way the men played today,” assistant coach Kevin Hudson said. “We went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the nation, and we played some of our best soccer of the year. We are disappointed to not get a result from this match, but this is a very useful learning opportunity for our young team. We will learn from this, grow as a team and get back at it Sunday against New Mexico.”

The game was physical, with the teams combining for 33 fouls and four yellow cards. SMU was forced to play with 10 men after sophomore Andrew Morales picked up a yellow card in the 58th and 67th minutes.

The Bulls took advantage of playing a man up when Ben Sweat scored on a goal from three yards out in the 75th minute for a 1-0 USF lead.

SMU continues play at the Hurricane Classic on Sunday with a match against No. 3 New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. The Lobos were undefeated in 2011 with an 18-0-4 record, spent several weeks as the top-ranked team in the country and fell to USF in the Sweet 16 on penalty kicks.
