SMU Tennis Defeats Sacramento State

DALLAS (SMU)— The No. 21 SMU men’s tennis team defeated Sacramento State, 5-2, Friday night at the SMU Tennis Complex. With the win, SMU improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 5-4.

The Mustangs took an early lead, winning the doubles point of the match as Markus Kerner and Arkadijs Slobodkins defeated Dom Miller and Donald Hall, 6-4. Ronald Slobodchikov and Tony Russell sealed the point with a victory over Loius Chabut and Christopher Clayton, 6-2.

SMU’s success continued into singles play. Slobodkins defeated Clayton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 before Samm Butler beat Chabut in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. No. 44 Hunter Johnson captured his fifth victory of the season beating Miller, 6-2, 6-4. No. 49 Ronald Slobodchikov sealed the victory for SMU defeating the Hornets’ top-player, Losbergs, 6-2, 4-6 and 1-0 in the tiebreaker.

The Mustangs return to the court tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. to play Prairie View A&M at the SMU Tennis Complex.
