Carolina had 2-0 and 3-1 leads in the game, but Columbus scored twice in the third to force extra playing time before winning the skills competition. In the first meeting this season on Nov. 18, Carolina scored four second-period goals, including two by Eric Staal, for a 6-4 victory that gave the franchise its first win in Dallas since 1996 when it was the Hartford Whalers.

The Hurricanes have lost three of their past four games (1-2-1). Thursday’s game is the fourth a five-game homestand for Carolina.
