Stars Beat Devils

The Dallas Stars went into the game looking for more offense against the New Jersey Devils and wanted to play a better game than they have the past few games. They did as they defeated the New Jersey Devils, 4-3 to end their losing streak at one game at the American Airlines Center Saturday night.

Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza, Trevor Daley and Shawn Horcoff scored the goals for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen stopped 28 of 31 shots.

1st Period

Tyler Seguin scored goal No. 25, tallying from the slot off the rush to lead the Stars 1-0 with 5:31 left in the first period. Then Jason Spezza scored on the rebound of his own shot that went past Corey Schneider’s blocker with 3:00 left in the first period. Curtis Mckenzie and Jordin Tootoo dropped the gloves at center ice at the 11:36 mark in the first period.

They led the Devils in shots on goal with 13 shots while the Devils had 7 shots.

2nd Period

The Devils scored to cut the lead 2-1 in the second period as Joe Merrill scored on the power play with 15:34 left in the second period. Then Eric Gelinas scored on a shot from the point, beating a screened Kari Lehtonen as the game was tied 2-2 with 12:14 left in the second period.

The Stars responded with a pair of their own goals as Trevor Daley scored off a blast from the right circle from a nice pass by Antoine Roussel to make it 3-2 with 5:05 left in the second period. Then Shawn Horcoff scored from close range off the rush after a nice set up by Vern Fiddler to make it 4-2 with 3:08 left in the second period.

3rd Period

Corey Schneider was replaced by Keith Kincaid after letting 4 goals on the 33 shots he faced. The Devils cut the lead to 4-3 with Scott Gomez getting it with 1:07 left in the third period as he shot it passed Kari’s glove side.
