The Dallas Stars lost a critical home game to the San Jose Sharks Tuesday night at the American Airlines Center.  The 5-2 loss means the Stars, who are in 9th place for the 8-team playoffs, must win their final 2 games and hope for help to get in.

In order for the Dallas Stars to qualify for the playoffs after tonight’s loss, the Stars need to:

  • Win their final two regular season games (@ NSH, vs. STL)
  •  AND One of the following three scenarios must take place:
    • San Jose collects no more than one point in their two remaining games
    • Los Angeles collects zero points in their two remaining games
    • Phoenix must collect no more than two points in their remaining three games (including tonight vs. CBJ)

Brenden Morrow scored the first Dallas goal, assisted by Mike Ribeiro and Mark Fistric.  It is Fistric’s 2nd assist of the season, his 1st since Feb. 21 at Montreal.  Fistric’s last point against a Western Conference team came last season against San Jose on March 5.

Alex Goligoski recorded his ninth goal of the season, first since Feb. 19 against Nashville.

Dallas has to put the loss behind them quickly as they head to Nashville for a game against the Predators on Thursday.  “You have to move forward,” Gulutzan said. “Now we need help and you just start preparing, getting ready for Nashville. There’s no other way to look at it. There’s no other way. It’s just business as usual and go win the game.”
