Stars lose in Phoenix

The Dallas Stars lost 2-1 to the Phoenix Coyotes Tuesday night.   The desperate Stars were aggresive all night, but Phoenix goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made 44 saves en route to the shootout win.

Jamie Benn scored for Dallas on a power-play in the 2nd period to tie the game at 1.  Both goalies saved everything else through regulation and the overtime period.  Benn would score again in the shootout, but Ray Whitney would score as the last skater for the Coyotes.

Stars coach Marc Crawford was pleased with the effort by his team, “We deserved to win tonight and we didn’t get it.  Their goalie was terrific tonight. He was the difference for them and they needed every one of the saves that they got. I thought we were the better team. I thought we outshot them 2-to-1, we probably out-chanced them 2-to-1 in the game.”

The Stars are now 3 points behind Chicago for the final playoff spot with seven games to play.  Dallas stays on the road to play San Jose on Thursday.
