Stars lose shootout to Flames

The Dallas Stars lost in a shootout to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.  The Stars rallied back from a 3-0 deficit in the opening period, but lost in the 3rd round of the shootout.  It is the second time this season that Dallas has managed to rally from a 3-0 deficit to gain a point in the standings (also vs. Chicago on Feb. 11, 4-3 SOW).

The Stars earned a point with the shootout loss, extending their point streak to seven games, and now have a 5-0-2 record in that span. They have not lost a game in regulation since Feb. 22 (1-0 L, vs. New Jersey).  Dallas is now 36-23-8 on the season for 80 points, good for sixth place in the Western Conference.

Dallas has 15 games left, with 11 of those coming vs. teams fighting head-to-head for a Western Conference playoff spot (currently in seeds 3-11).

Jamie Benn extended his consecutive goal-streak to five games (5 goals). Benn has the longest current goal-scoring streak in the NHL and is one of only 10 players in the league to register goals in five consecutive games this season. No Star has scored goals in five consecutive games since Brenden Morrow accomplished that feat last season from Nov. 25-Dec. 3.

Tomas Vincour scored his first goal in the National Hockey League, tying the game at 3-3 in the third period.

Alex Goligoski earned one assist, giving him a two-game point streak (3 assists). Goligoski has now registered points in five of his eight games as a Dallas Star (1 goal, 6 assists).

Mike Ribeiro added his 14th goal of the season and now has points in eight of his last 10 games.

Dallas stays home to host Minnesota on Friday.
