Stars Win Season Opener

The Dallas Stars defeated the Phoenix Coyotes by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday night. The Stars now hold a record of 9-2-3 when opening the season at home since moving to Dallas. With the win, the Stars are now 13-2-1 against the Coyotes in the first matchup of the season between the two teams.

The Dallas Stars went 2-4 on the power play in tonight’s game. The last time the Stars registered two power play goals in a game came on Dec. 31, 2011 against Boston.

Jaromir Jagr (2G-2A), Ray Whitney (1G-1A) and Derek Roy (1A) each registered a point tonight in their first game with the Stars. The last time at least three Stars recorded a point when making their debut with the team was on Oct. 5, 1993, the club’s first game in Dallas.

Jaromir Jagr tallied two goals and two assists in his Dallas Stars debut. The last time Jagr scored four points came on Feb. 19, 2008 against Montreal when he recorded four assists with the New York Rangers.

Ray Whitney posted a goal and an assist in tonight’s game. Whitney has now tallied seven points (4G-3A) in his first game against former teams (7 games).

With their goals tonight, Jagr and Whitney become the fourth pair of teammates over 40 years old to score a goal in the same game since the beginning of the Original Six era.

Loui Eriksson notched a goal and an assist tonight and has now posted six points (2G-4A) in his last three matchups against the Coyotes.

Stephane Robidas appeared in his 800th-career game tonight, tallying two assists and a game-high four blocked shots.

Kari Lehtonen logged 59:55 of ice time in tonight’s game, pushing his total TOI to 20,048 over his career. In the game, Lehtonen turned away 37 of the 40 shots he faced.

The Stars take on the Minnesota Wild tomorrow night in Minnesota.
