FORT WORTH – Oklahoma State scored three unearned runs in the sixth to erase a one-run deficit en route to a 4-1 win over TCU Saturday afternoon. The Horned Frogs stranded seven runners in the loss.

Brandon Finnegan (0-5) was once again the tough-luck losing pitcher as he allowed two unearned runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. The sophomore struck out seven and walked just one. Through 4 2/3 innings, Finnegan had faced the minimum number of hitters before a two-out single in the fifth.

A lead-off walk in the fifth got the Cowboys off and running. An error with one out put the go-ahead run on base, prompting a pitching change. Justin Scharf got a strikeout for out No. 2, but Tanner Krietemeier lined a double just inside the third base line, tying the game at one. Randy McCurry followed with an infield single to put the Cowboys in front, 2-1. TCU’s second error of the inning allowed the third run to score.

Oklahoma State tacked on another run in the fourth inning following a lead-off double by Trey Whaley. He was standing on third with one out when Cornell hit a sacrifice fly to left putting the Cowboys up 4-1.

TCU had taken an early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. With one out, Paul Hendrix doubled to left center. Jantzen Witte lined a single up the middle to give the Frogs

the lead. Derek Odell followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners, but Cowboy starter Mark Robinette struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

After giving up the three-runs in the top of the sixth, TCU tried to get back in the game. Cody Jones and Boomer White drew back-to-back walks but couldn’t advance any further. TCU had just two base runners in the final four innings.

The Horned Frog bullpen kept the Frogs in the game. Scharf was touched for two runs (one earned) on three hits in 1 1/3 inning. Travis Evans retired the only batter he faced and Trey Teakell pitched two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

TCU falls to 15-20 overall and 4-7 in league play. The rubber match of the series is slated for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Andrew Mitchell will get the start for TCU. Fans can watch the game live on FSSW+.
