TCU Baseball Season Ends Against Kansas

OKLAHOMA CITY – Playing with heavy hearts, TCU’s season came to an end with a 4-0 loss to Kansas Saturday night. Cody Jones led the Horned Frogs with three hits in the contest.

Andrew Mitchell allowed a run on two hits in five innings of work. The junior walked four and struck out three. Alex Young was torched for three runs on three hits in two innings of work.

TCU had plenty of base runners in the contest, but could never find the hit to bring in the run. The Frogs had the first opportunity to crack the scoreboard in the first inning after a two-out single from Jantzen Witte. Paul Hendrix walked to put two on, but the runners were stranded after a fly ball ended the inning.

Kansas opened the scoring in the third inning as it took advantage of a lead-off single from Ka’iana Eldredge. A sacrifice had him standing on second and he scored easily on a two-out single from Kevin Kuntz.

A lead-off double for Kansas in the sixth spelled trouble

for the Horned Frogs. An error put runners on the corners and a wild pitch pushed the Jayhawk lead to 2-0. Young minimized the damage as he got a strikeout and then tagged the runner out trying score on a safety bunt. He got a fly ball to right to end the inning with just the one run scoring.

The Frogs had a golden opportunity to get the game knotted in the top of the seventh as they loaded the bases with two outs. Cody Jones singled with two outs and back-to-back walks to Boomer White and Jantzen Witte loaded the bases. The Jayhawks went to the bullpen and called on their third pitcher of the inning to get out of the jam with their lead intact.

Kansas carried the momentum into the bottom of the frame and doubled its lead to four. Kuntz worked a one-out walk and scored on home run from Michael Suiter to make it a 4-0 lead. The Jayhawk bullpen shut the door the rest of the way to lock up the victory.

TCU’s season comes to an end with a 29-28 record.
