TCU Defeats Tech At CWS

Texas Christian rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Texas Tech 3-2 Sunday in both teams’ opening game of the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

TCU advances in the winner’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament, while Texas Tech goes to the loser’s bracket.

Trailing 2-1, the Horned Frogs (47-16) scored twice to take the lead for good. Left fielder Boomer White drove in two runs, center fielder Cody Jones went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice, and shortstop Keaton Jones went 2-for-2 with a run.

Winning pitcher Riley Ferrell allowed three hits, one earned run, no walks and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

The Red Raiders (44-20) scored their runs in the top of the eighth. Left fielder Tyler Neslony tripled and drove in both runs and designated hitter Adam Kirsch went 2-for-4.

Losing pitcher Jonny Drozd surrendered three hits, two runs (one earned), no walks and struck out no one in one inning of relief.
