TCU Volleyball Downs Texas Tech

FORT WORTH – TCU’s women’s volleyball team stayed undefeated in Big 12 play Wednesday evening with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) win over Texas Tech in front of a sold out University Rec Center.

The Horned Frogs won for the fourth-straight time and improved to 13-2 overall, 2-0 in the Big 12. Texas Tech dropped to 11-6, 0-2.

TCU broke open the first set with an 8-1 run midway through the opening frame. With the Frogs trailing 11-12, two Megan Munce kills and a Sloane Sunstrum kill and block on back-to-back points made it 19-13 in favor of the home team.

Texas Tech got within five, but the Frogs were able to close out the first set 25-17. Stephanie Holland had four kills in the first set, while Munce added three kills to go along with 10 assists.

The second set was more of the same for TCU as the Frogs forced an early Red Raider timeout with a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. Tech appeared to be ready to get back into the set when they got within one at 12-11, but the Frogs extended

the lead to 19-15, compliments of two Sunstrum kills.

TCU held onto its lead and took a 2-0 lead into the break with a 25-19 set two win. Holland equaled her first-set kill total with four as Sunstrum and Mattie Burleson also added four apiece. Munce assisted on 11 of the 16 TCU kills in the set.

Following the intermission, TCU came out firing on all cylinders in the third set, racing out to a 10-3 lead highlighted by back-to-back Munce aces. Tech was finally forced to take a timeout after TCU extended the lead to 18-7 on back-to-back Yvonne Igodan kills.

The squads exchanged points the rest of the way and TCU coasted to a 25-15 set three triumph and 3-0 win over its interstate foe. Igodan had six kills on seven attacks in the third set and Munce added 11 assists to go along with seven digs.

TCU held a distinct advantage in kills (44-29), assists (41-27), digs (50-42) and attack percentage (.327-106). Igodan had 11 kills and Holland added 10, while Munce picked up her eighth double-double of 2012 with 32 assists and 13 digs.

The Frogs continue their Big 12 slate Saturday at No. 19 Iowa State. First serve is set for 12 p.m., in Ames.
