DENVER, Colo. – The TCU women’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat in overtime at Denver Friday night, snapping their three match winning streak. Brittany Slyman scored the lone goal of the night for the Horned Frogs.

The teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. A highly entertaining overtime period followed as both teams fired off chances at the net, but it was Denver who hit paydirt in the 99th minute.

Kelly Johnson’s bid to score sailed high and the Pioneers turned the ball upfield for an offensive opportunity of their own. Nikki Pappalardo made a strong crossing feed to the goal box and Kalie Vaughn was there to knock in the game winner.

Denver hit the ground running in the first half as they fired off three shots in

the first 11 minutes. The pressure paid off in the 12th minute as Kaitlin Bast gave Denver the early 1-0 lead. She took a feed from Katy Van Lieshout and kicked it in to the left side of the goal.

The Frogs fought back as they tried to get the equalizer. A Makenzie Koch corner shot resulted in a pair of scoring opportunities in the 28th miute. Bobbi Clemmer’s header went just wide and Rebekah Foreman’s header was corralled by Pioneer goalkeeper Lara Campbell to keep it a 1-0 game.

TCU wasted little time getting the game tied in the second half. The Frog defense forced a Pioneer offside and TCU made the free kick count. The Frogs worked the ball into the offensive zone and created a mad scramble in front of the net. The ball eventually worked its way to the foot of Koch who in turn found an open Slyman. The junior blasted in her third goal of the season to tie the game at one in the 49th minute.

Arnold kept the Frogs in the game as the Pioneers put the offensive pressure on, making back-to-back saves in the 67th minute. She faced 14 shots in the second and made four saves to help the Frogs force overtime.

The loss drops the Frogs to 5-4-1 on the season. The Horned Frogs return home to start Big 12 Conference play next week. TCU’s inaugural Big 12 match will be a contest against another league newcomer, West Virginia. Match time at Garvey-Rosenthal on Sept. 28 is set for 7 p.m.
