ATHENS, Ga. –The TCU women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a cold second half in a 62-53 loss to Georgia on Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum.

Junior guard Zahna Medley led TCU with 19 points off a 7-of-15 effort from the field, while senior guard Donielle Breaux registered nine points and six rebounds.

The Horned Frogs (1-1) built a 35-30 halftime advantage, which vanished four minutes into the second half when Georgia (2-0) used an 8-0 run.

Senior forward Chelsea Prince converted a pair of free-throws to snap a 12-0 UGA run and a six-minute TCU scoring skid at the 12:31 mark and fellow senior Natalie Ventress followed with a jumper to cut the deficit to just two points.

After the Lady Bulldogs extended their lead back to nine points on a 7-0 run, Medley buried her second 3-pointer of the contest and junior guard Alexia Standish followed with a trey of her own on the next possession to cut the UGA lead to 53-50 with 6:57 remaining.

The Horned Frogs would manage just one bucket down the stretch however, as Prince converted a 3-point play with just under six minutes left to trim the deficit to four before going scoreless for the

remainder of the contest.

TCU built its largest lead of the contest in the first half at 28-19 when freshman AJ Alix found junior Veja Hamilton in the paint for a layup with just over five minutes left in the opening frame.

Alix would follow with another dish to sophomore center Klara Bradshaw two minutes later, who was fouled and converted the 3-point play to put TCU ahead by eight before its eventual five-point halftime lead.

The Frogs shot just 19 percent in the final 20 minutes for a 30-percent mark for the contest while converting 13-of-18 chances from the free-throw line.

Georgia, who turned the ball over 22 times compared to 16 TCU miscues, shot 42 percent for the game.

TCU returns to action to play host to cross-town rival SMU at noon on Wednesday at the University Recreation Center.
