BOULDER, Colo. – The TCU women’s basketball team erased a 17-point second-half deficit in the final five minutes but came up short to Colorado in the opening round of the WNIT on Wednesday night by a score of 78-71 at the Coors Events Center. The Horned Frogs closed out the season with an 18-15 overall record.

Sophomore guard Zahna Medley led four Frogs in double figures with 23 points to go with six assists in 38 minutes.

Junior guard Donielle Breaux rattled off 19 points, just one shy of a career high, off a 6-of-11 effort from the field, including a perfect 4-of-4 mark from 3-point range.

Junior guard Natalie Ventress added 14 points and five rebounds, while fellow junior Chelsea Prince chipped in 10 points with four steals.

TCU jumped out to an early 19-11 lead at the 14:00 mark before Colorado (18-14) closed the half on a 32-11 run for a 43-30 advantage at the break.

The Frogs trailed by as many as 17 points at the 16:59 mark, and remained

down 58-44 when they mounted a furious 15-1 run to tie the contest at 59 points apiece with 5:10 left to play.

Breaux connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the contest at the 8:25 mark to cut the deficit back down to single digits and Medley banked in a trifecta on the next possession to pull TCU within six points.

Following a runner by Medley, Prince stole the inbounds pass and converted the layup as the Frogs closed to within two points, and Medley would tie the game with another runner just over a minute later.

TCU would run out of steam, however, as the Buffalo answered with four quick points en route to the victory.

The Frogs were without the services of senior center Latricia Lovings due to injury, and the Buffalo took advantage by outscoring TCU by a 36-10 margin in the paint. Lovings missed her first contest in the last 79 games as she wrapped up her TCU career as one of the most dominant defensive players in program history.

TCU shot 41 percent (22-of-54) from the field and connected on 11 3-pointers while going 16-of-19 from the charity stripe.
