FORT WORTH, Texas – Four Horned Frogs scored in double figures as the TCU women’s basketball team toppled No. 13 Texas by a score of 64-59 on Sunday afternoon at the University Recreation Center.

The Horned Frogs secured their second win over a ranked opponent this season to improve to 13-7 overall and 5-4 in Big 12 play, while the Longhorns fell to 15-5 on the season and 4-5 in league action.

Junior forward Chelsea Prince flirted with a triple-double performance, posting 12 points, nine rebounds and matching a career high with seven steals. The Fort Worth native also set a new career high with four 3-pointers on seven attempts.

Veja Hamilton continued her streak of double-figure scoring games with a team-best 16 points in 27 minutes, going 6-of-12 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Zahna Medley tallied nine of her 11 points in the second half to go with five assists, while Natalie Ventress added 10 points.

The Frogs overcame an 8-0 deficit to start the contest to hold a 24-23 halftime advantage, keyed by a 10-0 run midway through the opening frame.

TCU, which never trailed after the 13:20 mark of the first half, broke a tie

early in the second half on a Medley 3-pointer, while Prince, Ventress and Jada Butts added 3-point buckets over the next three minutes to build a 45-41 advantage.

With the Frogs hanging on to a 3-point lead with just under eight minutes remaining, sophomore post Klara Bradshaw converted a 3-point play following an offensive rebound and putback to put TCU ahead 50-44.

The Frogs led by as many as six following another 3-pointer from Butts with 4:26 remaining, but the Longhorns would tie the contest with 2:26 remaining following six free-throws from Texas’ Ariel Atkins, including two on a technical foul on an illegal substitution.

Prince had the answer for TCU, draining her career-best fourth bucket from distance with 1:04 remaining before blocking the Longhorn shot attempt on the other end and grabbing the rebound with 46 seconds left to play.

Medley put TCU up by five with just 19.7 seconds remaining on a floater off the glass and Ventress added a pair of free throws to seal the upset.

After shooting just 27 percent from the field in the first half and connecting on just 2-of-11 3-point attempts, the Frogs hit nearly half of their shots in the closing 20 minutes (14-of-30) while knocking down seven 3-pointers on 11 attempts.

The Frogs’ defense was key again, pressuring the Longhorns into 25 turnovers with a season-high 19 steals.

TCU returns to action at 6 p.m., CT on Wednesday against West Virginia in Morgantown, W.Va.
